For those who want to be able to experience Dolby Digital surround sound without replacing their stereo or early model 5.1 surround receiver, Technics has created the SHAC500D Dolby Digital/DTS Decoder. The SHAC500D boasts a total of four digital inputs, two optical and two coaxial, as well as 6-channel analog inputs. Additionally, the SHAC500's dynamic range compression feature allows for fullness of sound even when playing at low volumes (a feature particularly useful during night-time entertaining). Its excellent sonics, reasonable price, wireless remote control, and slim chassis make it especially appealing to the discerning consumer interested in quality but loath to spend thousands of dollars for it. If your receiver or DVD player does a great job but lacks the processors needed to experience true Dolby Digital or surround sound, the SHAC500 is a high-end, budget-minded solution to consider.
Use it to decode surround sound for discrete amplifiers or with a receiver with 5.1 channel analog inputs. Also can be used to decode surround sound from a Mac/PC with an optical digital output, driving 5.1 channel speakers with analog inputs.
